After being canceled last year due to the pandemic, the Citi Open will return this August in time for players to prepare for the
US Open.
Hosted in Washington, D.C, the tennis tournament features a variety of star players who hope to fine-tune their hard-court game in time for the last Grand Slam of the year. Running from August 2-8 2021, the event is expected to restrict fan capacity to 50 percent, in accordance with the U.S Park service guidelines.
However, there will be no companion women's event this year as the WTA reassigned the sanction to an overseas market. Nonetheless, tournament organizers are working on a way to “present women’s tennis” at this summer’s Citi Open, perhaps through an exhibition or format outside the WTA.
