Tennis can be a very lucrative sport. A lot of money is on the line to be won, and if you are one of the best in the world winning the biggest competitions on offer, then you are going to be making a lot of money. That can be said for Carlos Alcaraz who, at the age of 22, has climbed into the top four in the list of all-time career earnings, overtaking none other than Andy Murray.
This has come after bitter disappointment in the Monte-Carlo Masters final. As the reigning champion, Alcaraz was defending not just the title but 1000 points that would leave him vulnerable to an attack from behind, most specifically Jannik Sinner.
The Italian knew that a fourth consecutive Masters 1000 title would accelerate him back into the top spot, and that is exactly what he did. He took down the Spaniard 7-6(5), 6-3 to win the Monte-Carlo Masters for the first time. It is a frustrating blow for Alcaraz who has not hit the same extraordinary levels he was regularly reaching at the start of the year, winning the Australian Open and Qatar Open.
While this result did not go his way, he still earned an eye-watering €532,120 for his week of work in Monaco. This money has boosted him to new heights in terms of earnings, surpassing some of the greats so early in his career.

Alcaraz Monaco's earnings enough to leapfrog Murray in all-time list

Alcaraz now sits on $64,959,077, an incredible sum for a player who is currently competing in his sixth full season on the ATP Tour.
In his time, he has won seven Grand Slam titles from eight finals, eight Masters 1000 triumphs from 10 finals along with 26 ATP titles from 35 finals. All of these result in lucrative paydays, which all play a part in him reaching the heights in this list that he is currently experiencing.
After booking his spot in the final against home-hero Valentin Vacherot, Alcaraz has jumped above three-time Grand Slam champion Murray. The Brit earned a whopping $64,687,542 in his time, only bettered by the 'Big Three' for a number of years. Now, Alcaraz cements his name above him.
There will not be any danger for the top three anytime soon. Novak Djokovic has an unassailable lead at the top as he looks to close in on the $200 million mark. $193,215,570 is his overall earnings but with him still competing at the highest level with no intention of stopping soon, it is expected that he could surpass that number. Rafael Nadal can be found quite far back in second with $134,946,100, while Roger Federer sits on $130,594,339 won in his impeccable career at the top of tennis.

Just three players have earned more money than Carlos Alcaraz in tennis earnings
With a lot of prize money on offer, Alcaraz will be eyeing up these tallies. Overtaking them will take a lot of time, however, due to the seismic gap. His most rewarding year, 2025, saw him collect a grand total of $21,354,778. He will have to repeat that for a good four years or so if he is going to rise above Federer and Nadal, and possibly go very deep into his 30's to get even close to the Serbian while still winning Grand Slams and Masters 1000 titles.
However, that is very likely not on the mind of Alcaraz, who is on the hunt for vengeance. He is set to return to the Barcelona Open as the reigning runner-up after losing to Holger Rune in the final. The two-time champion is the overwhelming favourite to clinch back his title on home soil before making a return to the Madrid Open after skipping it last year with an ankle injury. His title defences at the Rome Open and Roland Garros will follow suit with the chance to earn a whole lot more money.
