"I remember the night before the final, I couldn't sleep - I was sweating during the night." @janniksin remembers the night before his first #MiamiOpen final very well 😥
Jannik Sinner has reached his third final in four editions at the Miami Open and he recounted his first after thrashing Daniil Medvedev 6-1, 6-2 in the semi-finals when he lost out to Hubert Hurkacz.
He was beaten also in 2023 against Daniil Medvedev 7-5, 6-3 who he has since got the better of on a number of occasions and seems to have a hoodoo over. But it was a different complexion in 2021 with Sinner not able to sleep and was sweating the night before. He said he now handles the situation a lot better.
It is also a different complexion in the final as he will face off against Grigor Dimitrov instead of Alexander Zverev after a terrific win through the night for the Bulgarian who returns to the top 10 for the first time in 65 months and will now do battle with Sinner this Sunday.
“I remember the night before the final, I couldn't sleep. I was sweating during the night and now I handled the situation much better," said Sinner post match.
"For me, it's the third time that I can play the final here in Miami, which is an amazing achievement for me personally, and then hopefully I can lift once the bigger trophy. If not, it was again a great result, a great opportunity, and that's it."
"The first time I came here I made final, like, I couldn't sleep the night. The second time, which was last year, I was relaxed because I went through periods of where I made already, you know, experiences. Now I'm a different player, different person. I will handle it hopefully a little bit better again. If I win, good. If not, it's again a great result."
