Daniil Medvedev has hit out at a perceived title drought after he was defeated by Jannik Sinner again in the semi-finals of the
Miami Open on Friday evening.
Medvedev has failed in multiple finals including the Australian Open and also Indian Wells in recent months and hasn't won a title in nearly a year since Rome with the Russian reaching multiple finals without gaining a title.
But he sees it as a peril of being a top player and playing the best in finals. He said that if he played mainly ATP 250's, he'd likely hoover up titles for fun, but he doesn't want to do that and said that he's only losing to the best players in the world.
"Well, it depends, because I'm trying, you know, to play the best tournaments in the world. I think if we look tournament by tournament, you know, I'm losing against big players," said Medvedev.
"I have been in some finals and I lost against Sinner, Djokovic, and Alcaraz, and for sure I want to beat them and, let's say, be better than them. But I didn't manage to do it and I have to work on it either mentally or tennis-wise."
"You know, for example, on clay, I'm going to play Monte-Carlo, Rome, Madrid, Roland Garros. It might be tough to get a title there, but, you know, yeah, if I would play ten (ATP) 250s a year, I'd probably get some titles," he said. "Never be too confident, but I'm sure I would be able to, but I'm trying to play the best tournaments in the world."
