Once upon a time, tennis players have been widely featured on the list of the highest-paid athletes in the world however according to Forbes, we have only two this year.
The 2023 list of the highest-paid athletes in the world includes only two tennis players and what's even more interesting is that they're not active players. Roger Federer is number 9 while Serena Williams is number 49. Much of their earnings come from their iconic legacy in the sport which many consider the best of all time.
No active tennis players was ranked in the top 50 which is further proof of the ever-changing tennis landscape which sees some young names rise and players that have dominated the sport for almost two decades - fading away. Lists in the future will certainly welcome some new names but this truly feels like the end of an era.

According to Forbes, only two tennis players are in the top 50 highest-paid athletes for their 2023 list: #49 Serena Williams, who played just 10 matches; #9 Roger Federer, who played one exhibition match. A reflection of the strange, transitional current landscape of tennis.
