Daniil Medvedev downs Zverev in Rome

The rematch between Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev proved less crazy than their previous match but the result was the same as Medvedev won 6-2 7-6(3).

Alexander Zverev hasn't played that well in Rome and this match wasn't particularly good either. He took it upon himself to be the more aggressive player attacking Medvedev in most rallies but it didn't work out that well. He had more winners but he also made more errors and the first set was particularly bad.

He didn't serve well and couldn't create too much pressure with his serve. The deep return position of the Russian certainly had an effect on that and Zverev simply couldn't find a way to win points. He lost the set 2-6 but produced a much better effort in the second set. We ended up in the tiebreak with Medvedev ultimately pulling away 7-3 but he could have done it sooner.

He had a break in hand earlier in the set but couldn't hold it wasting a couple of break chances after that as well. Ultimately he did prove better with a more balanced approach than Zverev who was a bit erratic at times.
