World number three Daniil Medvedev has made a bold prediction
about the future of Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Italy’s Jannik Sinner. Both players are regarded as the two best players currently playing
in the men’s singles category in men’s tennis.
Medvedev was recently quoted in a report where he made a
bold prediction that both Alcaraz and Sinner will have an equal number of Grand
Slam wins in their career after 10 years.
“Basically there are two, maybe three really young guys who
look like they're really going to be the future of the sport,” he said. “Of
course Carlos and Sinner and maybe Rune. For the fun of it and down the line,
say, in ten years, which one do you think will.
“Oh, tough. Bold guess. At the moment you want to say
Sinner, right? But Carlos is super strong also. You know what, let's put it
this way, Carlos and Sinner with same number of slams in ten years. Then at the
end of their career, I don't know.”
As things stand, Alcaraz has won two major titles in his career.
He won his first Grand Slam in 2022 when he lifted the US Open after defeating
Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final with a score of 6–4, 2–6, 7–6(7–1), 6–3.
He then went on to win Wimbledon in 2023 after beating Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic in the final with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
On the other hand, Sinner has recently won his only Grand
Slam title after beating Medvedev in the final of the Australian Open with a
score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
