Daniil Medvedev is having his best week on clay so far at the
Roland Garros as he added another impressive victory taking down Garin 6-2 6-1 7-5.
It was a sensational display from Daniil Medvedev against
Christian Garin which earned him a spot in his first Roland Garros quarterfinal. The Russian was dominant from the start despite having to go through a lengthy first game. Once he held that game it was over for Garin who simply could not break through the defence of the Russian who played several sensational passing shots.
Medvedev was even more brilliant in the 2nd set which he won with 6-1 as Garin tried to be more aggressive and shorten the points. He simply did not see any other solution but Medvedev was once again more than dept of absorbing Garin's aggression allowing him to win points on the back foot. Garin hit only 5 winners and committed 10 errors compared to Medvedev who had 14 and 7 and it showed on the 6-1 result.
At the start of the 3rd set, Garin took an MTO for a neck problem or shoulder problem it was hard to tell which bothered him precisely. After it, he played better and even took a 3-0 lead. Medvedev then took an MTO and after that passed he pulled it back to 3-3.
The players traded a few more games until we arrived at 5-5 which was a very long game. Garin saved one break point and had several chances to win the game but Medvedev carved out another break ball and won the game. He then closed it out with 7-5.
