Day 2 at Japan Open: Djokovic through on return to action, Daniel stuns Coric

The second day of action at the Japan Open has concluded with the likes of Novak Djokovic and Denis Shapovalov easing through to the second round.

Djokovic defeated Alexei Popyrin, a dangerous young opponent 6-4, 6-2 in Tokyo who was returning to the court for the first time since retiring at the US Open. He was solid hitting seven aces and winning 44 per cent of his return points and he also passed Ivan Lendl in the all time rankings.
Next up is Go Soeda, a home favourite who took care of Jan-Lennard Struff in the tournament opener.
Speaking of home favourite, one that impressed was Taro Daniel who had not won a match at over 250 level since February but he rose to the occasion seeing off the second seed brilliantly 6-4, 4-6, 7-6.
He will next take on Aussie, Jordan Thompson who saw off Juan Ignacio Londero 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. There was also victories on Tuesday for the likes of Reilly Opelka who upset close friend Taylor Fritz and Denis Shapovalov who eased past Miomir Kecmanovic.
