Kyle Edmund is a former top 20 player and the Brit made his return to tennis after missing two years of tennis due to various knee injuries.
There is no greater threat to a tennis player's career than injuries and Kyle Edmund can certainly speak about that. The Brit had to deal with various knee injuries that left him unable to play tennis for two years. It was two years in his physical prime which he will never get back and it's particularly disappointing considering he was on the cusp of breaking into the top 10.
After makign a winning return in Washington, Edmund said:
''It’s extremely rewarding to be back. There were times when there was no progression, no
improvement. But I was willing to exhaust all avenues to get back. I didn’t pick up a racquet for five or six months. I just wanted to play tennis.”
A huge inspiration for him is Andy Murray, somebody who knows what it means to be trouble by injuries:
"When you see what Andy has gone through with his various surgeries,
you can see he had to work extremely hard to get back and go through
quite a bit of pain. I found with this type of injury you
had to have so much self-motivation, because you could just pack it in. It
showed me that I loved the game. If I didn’t love it, it would have
been easy to walk away. There were plenty of opportunities to do that."
