World no. 9 Diego Schwartzman is pleased with his 2020 performance, achieving things he never did before and getting himself into the elite company where he wants to stay in 2021 as well.

The Argentine failed to win the title in the season behind us, but he still played on a high level, advancing into the first Masters 1000 final in Rome and the first Major semi-final at Roland Garros soon after that.

In 2021, Schwartzman wants to stay competitive and improve his game, as in the previous couple of years. He would also like to beat Roger Federer for the first time, playing four times against the 20-time Major champion between 2014-2017 and never crossing the finish line first.

"It's hard to say that this was my best year when we know how tough it was for Argentina and the entire world. It was my finest season when we consider sport alone, as I achieved things I had never done before. I cracked the top-10 and performed on a high level at Roland Garros and Rome. I reached a couple of finals, and the title is the only thing that was missing. I have to improve my performance in the title matches.

In 2021, I want to keep my level from the previous couple of years and play constant and reliable tennis, with regular improvements. Also, I want to remain healthy, that's always important. Outside the US Open, I have reached a certain level of consistency at Majors. I want to keep it in the years to come and get the rounds that correspond with my ranking. I can't dream about Major titles, but I will try to win as many matches as possible on the most significant scene.

The ATP Finals gathers the season's best players, on the surface and condition I don't like. I lost all three encounters in London despite playing good tennis at some parts; the next year's goal is to remain in the top-10 and secure another ATP Finals berth. Hopefully, I can play better in Turin. In 2021, I want to beat Roger Federer for the first time; I hope he never retires, so I get a chance to beat him," Diego Schwartzman said.
