Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic has again achieved another milestone
after securing the fourth-round win in
Wimbledon 2023.
The 36-year-old defeated Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in the
round of 16 clash during the third Grand Slam of the year with a score of 7-6,
7-6, 5-7, 6-4 on Monday.
While doing so, Djokovic becomes the only third player in
the Open Era to reach 400 Grand Slam main draw matches.
The other two players were 20-time Grand Slam winner Switzerland’s
Roger Federer (429) and former women’s world number one America’s Serene Williams
(423).
The victory also means that Djokovic will now be playing in
his fifth straight quarterfinal at Wimbledon.
The current world number two is on a 32-match unbeaten
streak in London as he has won the competition on four consecutive occasions since
2018.
Djokovic’s last defeat in the competition came way back in
the 2017 edition where he was forced to retire in the quarterfinal against
Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych because of an arm injury.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner will now face Russia’s Andrey
Rublev in Wimbledon’s quarterfinal clash on Tuesday.
