Despite
Carlos Alcaraz bringing glory back to Spain at
Wimbledon,
Novak Djokovic still copped abuse from a Spanish politician after the Wimbledon final on Sunday, July 16.
In the highly anticipated clash, Djokovic was upset by the World No.1 and handed him his first loss at Wimbledon in six years.
After almost five hours in a superb contest, Alcaraz prevailed but while Pablo Echenique, a Spanish politician also chimed in congratulating his compatriot, he also threw shade at Djokovic.
"The Alcaraz thing is absolutely impressive. And that on top of that he has beaten an ultra-rightist, Putinist, friend of Serb genocides and anti-vaccine terraplanist makes the wonder even more wonderful."
In the past, Djokovic has been heavily criticised for not taking the COVID-19 vaccination. He was infamously deported back from Australia ahead of the 2022 Australian Open.
He has also been involved in controversies surrounding Kosovo and his father holding a Russian flag so hasn't been immune to criticism over the past three years.
