Novak Djokovic endured a slot start in his Paris Masters final against Medvedev but the Serbian rallied to win it 4-6 6-4 6-3.
The start of the match opened similar to the match they played in New York where Medvedev baited Djokovic into longer rallies. That resulted in a couple of cheap errors by the Serbian mostly due to a lack of patience with Medvedev taking the break. He confirmed it for a 2-0 lead but Djokovic came right back to make it 2-2, even taking a 3-2 lead.
Medvedev remained calm and won his service game after which he continued applying pressure on Djokovic. The Serbian did not serve as well and that gave the Russian chances which he took towards the end of the set. He closed it out with 6-4. The 2nd set opened calmly for both as neither faced issues in the first game. At 2-1, Djokovic played a brilliant game to take a 3-1 lead.
After that, he continued playing well holding the Russian at bay as Medvedev failed to find ways to elicit errors out of Djokovic. He was able to hold his lead for the majority of the set arriving at 5-3 with a chance to close out the set. He faced break points in that game, three in total, but he was able to persevere and close out the 2nd set with 6-3.
The 3rd set was where Djokovic played his best tennis all day. After holding off the Serbian early, Medvedev ran into some issues at 2-2 and the Serbian was able to break him. He then confirmed the break easily with 4-2. The difference was the serve as the Russian was not hitting it very well in the 3rd. He also committed quite a few errors and that allowed Djokovic to take a 5-2 lead after which he closed it out with 6-3.
