Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic has continued to extend his lead against
his two fiercest rivals — Spain’s
Rafael Nadal and
Roger Federer.
The three players, who are famously known as ‘The Big Three’,
remained competitive for more than a decade and ruled men’s tennis unlike
ever before.
Out of the three, the most decorated player is Djokovic but
for some odd reason, his achievements have always been undermined.
The 36-year-old has now extended his lead at the very top after
winning the Cincinnati Open (Western & Southern Open) after defeating Spain’s
young tennis star Carlos Alcaraz in the final with a score of 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 on
Sunday.
The victory was Djokovic’s 64th title won at the
highest level and the 39th ATP Masters 1000 title. The feat included
23 Grand Slam victories and six ATP Finals titles for the current world number two.
His closest rival remains Nadal who has won 59 titles at the
highest including 22 Grand Slam victories, one Olympic Gold medal and 36 ATP Masters
1000 titles.
Switzerland’s Federer, who has already retired from
professional tennis last year, sits on the third position in the list with 54
titles including 20 Grand Slam triumphs, six ATP Finals and 28 ATP Masters 1000
titles to his name.
