Novak Djokovic had a drama-filled match on Tuesday against Taylor Fritz with rain playing a huge role in it.
Djokovic was rolling on Tuesday against Taylor Fritz winning the opening set 6-3 and leading for the majority of the 2nd set. Late in the set, the rain started slowly dripping which Djokovic did not enjoy. When it was time to serve for the match the rain started to pick up more and Djokovic completely collapsed in that game losing it. He vented his frustration on the umpire which you can see below.
Once the rain stopped the match resumed and Djokovic was able to win the match. He also apologised to the umpire for his behaviour earlier and all was well. But what did Djokovic do to calm down in those 3 hours between stoppage and resumption of play? Well, he explained after the match:
“I was listening to some music, talked to my coach about his observation of my game, what needs to be done better. But we also had some fun. I spoke to my kids. There's always something to do. I was definitely not bored.”
Djokovic admitted there is a lot of uncertainty with rain delays saying:
“Every half an hour it's a checkpoint, and they will let you know whether the match is postponed or they're going to call it or they're just going to call it a night, then you have to go to hotel."
He continued further:
"Also with eating, whether you rest or you get some sleep or not. You really have to feel yourself and know what's best for you. Sometimes if you fall asleep, wake up, maybe it takes time to get those engines moving.”
