Novak Djokovic is through to the
Madrid Open semifinals are a routine win over Polish number one
Hubert Hurkacz 6-3 6-4.
Djokovic did the typical Djokovic thing. He played smart tennis doing just enough to win the match knowing exactly what he needs to do to win it. Against Hurkacz his return played a massive role as the Polish player can do little harm to Djokovic outside his serve. Hurkacz did not have in the first set and Djokovic simply exploited his 2nd serve.
On serve, Djokovic was too solid overall leaving very few chances to Hurkacz. The Pole didn't even see a break point in the entire first set as Djokovic cruised 6-3. The Serbian did not push the issue too much but the 2nd set was a bit more entertaining. Djokovic got an early break thanks to some questionable decisions by Hurkacz.
Djokovic once again did not push too much focusing mainly on his own serve but he ran into some issues at 4-3. He committed a few double faults and Hurkacz was able to push him to a deuce. He still did not get a break point though as Djokovic held his nerve and serve for the 5-3 lead. The Serbian finished it off with 6-4. An overall great win for the Serbian without facing a single break point. Very impressive.
