Rublev extended his winning streak to six matches with a 7-6(7), 7-5 win over World No. 36 Evans, once again demonstrating his on-court problem-solving abilities.
Rublev had issues with Evans in both sets especially the first where he was a break down. In the 2nd one he threw away a lead before finally managing to squeeze out the straight sets victory. He said:
“I didn’t start well, and I got super frustrated. I was 40/0 up and I had quite an easy forehand and I didn’t make it. I said to myself, if I’m not going to change, I’m not going to win. I will lose."
Rublev did not allow himself to get too frustrated as he tends to do sometimes although he did have fiery bursts in the match. Early on he punched his racquet once more drawing blood again. It's something he is working on cutting out from his game as he understands that it's not a good look. He further added:
"So I started to be more calm, started to play better, and at the end I was able to turn it around and win a set. The second set was better, and in the last games I think I showed a good level.”
