Novak Djokovic once again faces restrictions for not being vaccinated, and there are still doubts about his participation in Indian Wells and Miami Open.
World No. 1 has already applied for an exemption to the USA authorities, but the situation is complicated according to Prakash Amritraj. The tennis player commented that if Novak Djokovic is granted permission without allowing his family to enter, since there are also many other people who want to enter the country.
"It becomes a tricky situation at that point. You know, if you excuse the great tennis player, then a lot of the family members and so forth who've been trying to get in, it's a tricky situation, where do you make that call?
"But a lot of other countries have loosened up these restrictions and it seems it is coming off in May. So should they even be here right now?" said former world No. 154.
In the American's opinion, Nole's presence in Indian Wells and Miami would be important for tennis
"If you just look at it from a tennis perspective, he's sort of established himself as the best tennis player in the world,"
"So, for all of us, it's a huge shame not to have him at two of the biggest events that we have," said Amritraj.
Former coach of Roger Federer and Pete Sampras, Paul Annacone also gave his opinion after Amritraj's remarks:
"As a tennis fan, I want him here," Annacone said on the same. "As someone who looks at the world realistically, I don't know how they let him in and don't let everyone in then. That just doesn't make sense."
By the moment, Serbian's next tournament will be the Dubai Open, and he’ll try to win the trophy that he already lifted 5 times.
