Novak
Djokovic defeated
Andrey Rublev and advanced to the semifinals of
Wimbledon
with a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3.
The Serbian
player overcame a tough match against the 17th seed Hubert Hurkacz, who despite
showing a strong serve throughout the match, couldn't defeat Djokovic, who
secured the victory in four sets.
Rublev
achieved a victory against Kazakhstan's Aleksander Bublik, who found his best
form on grass and took his opponent to a fifth set, but the Russian's dominance
prevailed on this occasion.
The first
set saw Rublev and Djokovic playing fairly evenly, with the Russian remaining
composed as he saved three break points against him, while capitalizing on the
only break opportunity he had in the ninth game. Rublev hit 11 winners and made
6 unforced errors, compared to Djokovic's 13 winners and 6 unforced errors,
resulting in a 6-4 advantage for Rublev.
After
taking the lead, Rublev couldn't maintain the momentum and started the second
set with errors. In a matter of minutes, Djokovic secured two breaks in his
favor and went up 5-0, ultimately equalizing the match with a convincing 6-1.
Just when
it seemed like Djokovic had complete control of the match, Rublev once again
showed character and had two break points in his favor in the second game,
which he couldn't convert. In the fifth game, Djokovic seized his first
opportunity and managed to hold onto it for the rest of the set. Rublev put up
a fight when trailing 5-4 and saved four set points for Djokovic in a tense
game, but the Serbian player ultimately prevailed to take the set.
In the
fourth set, both players started strongly, holding their service games to love,
but Rublev's lapses in concentration and Djokovic's efficiency allowed the
Serbian to break early and establish the necessary advantage once again.
With Rublev
serving at 3-5 down in the score, Djokovic capitalized on his second match
point and closed the match with a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3. He will now face
Italian star Jannik Sinner in the semifinals, who defeated Roman Safiullin in
four sets.
