Australia’s tennis star
Nick Kyrgios does not believe that
any of Chris Eubanks and
Daniil Medvedev will have a chance to beat defending
champion
Novak Djokovic in the
Wimbledon semifinal.
The 36-year-old booked his place in the quarterfinal of the
competition after beating Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in the round of 16 clash on
Monday with a score of 7-6, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4.
Djokovic, who will now face Russia’s Andrey Rublev in the
last-eight, is on his way to meet one of Daniil Medvedev or Chris Eubanks in
the semis.
While responding to a tweet which stated “Go win it all
Chris Eubanks”, the last year's finalist responded by saying: “I give this about
0% haha but please prove me wrong”.
Kyrgios further went on to state that he could only see
Italy’s Matteo Berrettini capable enough of stopping the 23-time Grand Slam
winner at Wimbledon.
“I think the only person now who honestly can take down or
trouble Novak on the grass is Berrettini…. On the grass you need a bomb for
some free points. If not you are in trouble,”
he tweeted.
But the good news for Djokovic is that the 27-year-old suffered
a fourth-round exit from the third Grand Slam of the year after losing to the current
world number one Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 on
Monday.
The words of Kyrgios will not please any of the remaining
players in the competition who will be hoping to finally end the dominance of
Djokovic who has now won 32 consecutive matches at Wimbledon.
The current world number two has won seven Wimbledon titles
and is a defending champion since 2018. His last defeat in the tournament was back
in 2017 where he was forced to retire from the quarterfinals because of an arm
injury.
