Novak Djokovic chose Mallorca as his base ahead of Wimbledon and despite not playing any singles event prior to the Grand Slam he will play doubles.
The Serbian is enjoying a fabulous 2021 winning his 2nd Grand Slam of the year at Roland Garros. One day after that he travelled back home to Belgrade where he was spotted celebrating with friends and family. His attention now turns to Wimbledon and he elected Mallorca as his base to prepare for the event.
There is a fabulous tennis facility located on the outskirts of Palma de Mallorca where the
Mallorca Championships will take place next week. Notable names will attend that event such as Dominic Thiem, Pablo Carreno Busta and Dominic Thiem. Djokovic won't play singles but he will play doubles at the event.
The news was shared by the organizers on their official social media pages on Tuesday with no more info added. It's not clear with whom the Serbian will play doubles but his intentions are clear. He wants some time on the grass and doubles are a perfect chance to get some time on the grass.
He can practice his serve and volley which will do him good at Wimbledon. They are not as harsh on the body as well which should keep him fresh for the Grand Slam which is a huge objective for him. It would dramatically raise his chances for completing a calendar Grand Slam which his coach Vajda earlier said he can do.
