Dominic Thiem earns another win, takes down Gasquet in Monte-Carlo

Dominic Thiem added another win to his season tally by beating Richard Gasquet 6-1 6-4 at the Monte-Carlo Masters in the South of France.

The Austrian recently won two matches at the Estoril Open making his way to his maiden quarter-final this year and he's followed up those wins with another solid performance here. Thiem came out inspired against Gasquet attacking him in every rally and it worked quite well for him. A few breaks and a 6-1 finish in only 45 minutes of play.

Gasquet didn't serve very well and he didn't play well either but 10 winners from Thiem certainly had something to do with it. We saw much better play from Gasquet in the second set at least generally as he was able to keep his serve with more ease.

He still suffered from an early break after which the match pretty much ended with Theim mostly focusing on his serve and keeping the break. Gasquet tried a few things but he was really erratic from the baseline making a lot of errors and that was simply not good enough. A good win for Thiem who seems to be getting back to his best tennis recently.
