Casper Ruud is not a player whose name you'll find in newspapers much but he knows his worth as a tennis player proving it at the Estoril Open recently.
Ruud won the event in the coastal Portuguese town by beating Miomir Kecmanovic in the final and after the match he spoke about his career. He's not someone who people talk about often despite being one of the best players in the world. It's something he's aware of but he knows his worth having proven it on the courts:
"People don't write much about me. I think that's also because I don't have the most flashy game and most beautiful winners, forehand, backhand, serve. But in the end I'm winning quite a lot of matches. The ranking is 52-weeks, last year I won many matches."
He added:
"I got to number two. People will always find a way to criticise no matter what. They will say the path was easy or that I'm playing some smaller tournaments. Maybe you can give credit to my smart scheduling."
It was the first trophy Ruud was able to win all year long and it's a very needed one.
