Austrian tennis star
Dominic Thiem has announced his withdrawal from the 2022
Cordoba Open, citing a right finger injury.
The former World No.3 has not competed on the ATP circuit since suffering a tear in his right wrist at Mallorca in June of last year. Thiem arrived in Cordoba with the intention to play, but after training decided to withdraw from the clay-court event.
"In the last days, I suffered a minor injury between my knuckles, a little strain of my ligament. The positive thing is the wrist is perfectly fine, but I'm suffering pain in my hand and also lacking practice, so I have to pull out," Thiem said. "I'm very sad, but I'm going to come back once I'm 100 per cent fit, and thank you so much for the great and warm welcome I had here in Cordoba."
The 2020 US Open champion was seeded second at the ATP 250 event, and was scheduled to play either Chilean wildcard Nicolas Jarry or Argentine wildcard Tomas Etcheverry in the second round. He will be replaced by a lucky loser.
