America’s
tennis star
Taylor Townsend has opened up celebration after winning her first
Grand Slam title recently in any category. The 28-year-old recently lifted the
Wimbledon title in the doubles category as she and her partner Kateřina
Siniaková defeated Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Australia’s Erin Routliffe
with a score of 7-6, 7-6.
Townsend was
recently quoted in a report where she explained how she partied after winning
the first Grand Slam of her career. “Oh my god, I was looped,” she said. “I
literally made a video: I was like, 0 out of 10. Don't recommend drinking
champagne after playing matches and on an empty stomach. This is terrible. People
had already seen it by the time I took it down, so I was just like, at this
point I don't even care. It was just such a genuine reaction."
The victory
was a special one for Townsend as she had previously lost in the final of two major
events. She lost in the final of the US Open in 2022, and she and her partner Caty McNally lost to the pair Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova in a straight set with a score of 3-6 ,7-5, 6-1. She then lost in the final of the French Open in
2023 as she and her partner Leylah Fernandez lost to the pair of Hsieh Su-wei
and Wang Xinyu with a score of 6-1, 7-6,
6-1.
Townsend is currently
taking part in the Canadian Open. In the doubles category, her journey ended on Thursday as she and her partner Sloane Stephens lost to the pair of
Jessica Pegula and Giuliana Olmos in the round of 16 in straight sets with a score
of 6-3, 6-3. However, her journey in the singles continues as she has booked
her place in the round of 16 after beating Canada’s Marina Stakusic in straight
sets with a score of 6-0, 6-2.
