The Draw is set for the ASB Classic which is an ATP 250 which begins today (Monday January 6) with Ben Shelton as top seed and is the precursor to the Australian Open.
Thus far already on Day One, there ar wins for Nuno Borges, Zizou Bergs and Roberto Carballes Baena. Bergs was a late replacement for Jan-Lennard Struff who was initially in the draw.
Shelton is top seed and faces either Hong Kong champion Alexandre Muller or Jakub Mensik in an either way quality tie situation. Below them Reilly Opelka who was one of the stars of Brisbane faces Mariano Navone. The winner will now face Borges.
Alejandro Tabilo is second seed and gets a bye. He faces a qualifier or lucky loser at any rate. He could yet tangle with Alex Michelsen who sits in his section. Other ties include Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard facing Yunchoakate Bu. The winner could face Gael Monfils.
Flavio Cobolli also returns to action with Zizou Bergs likely his next opponent. Tabilo is the defending champion in a tournament that has seen Richard Gasquet win prior to that. While after not being played for three years prior, it was another Frenchman claiming success in Ugo Humbert.
It is also a tournament that follows on from the Women's which like in Adelaide and Brisbane is more high profile on their side but this one takes place in a different week so gets its own spotlight.
