The DC Open Washington is due to take place between 21-27 July, 2025 and the draw has been completed on the men's side for the main event of a week of stacked tennis action. A tournament which also has a WTA tournament as part of the double header, both draws are stacked.
The men's is lead by a home hero as Taylor Fritz will return to action after reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon. It will be an intriguing run-in for the American who has to defend his biggest career achievement last year, making the US Open final.
That is to come and through injury travails through the clay, he keeps on coming and won't be stopped. He could in reality face Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard one for the servebot purists with the duo facing off at Wimbledon. The Frenchman dropped 37 aces on him and led by two sets.
Then there was the issue with the match being curtailed due to it being close to the curfew. But Fritz returned to win through and dug in for a five set win. It was one though that acted as a real catalyst. Mpetshi Perricard also hit the fastest serve in Wimbledon history during that loss of 153mph. Fritz though went all the way to the semi-finals and won titles in Stuttgart and Eastbourne prior on grass.
Fritz though will know that hard courts are his playground so in reality he should be doing even better on this surface. Albeit in Washington, he has only reached the semi-finals once back in 2023. Mpetshi Perricard reached the third round on debut last year.
It is the tournament of the serve bots too with Reilly Opelka matched to face Daniil Medvedev, the former US Open champion. Opelka being 6'11 and in the same mould as Mpetshi Perricard provides a huge test but he has to see off a qualifier first. It has been a lot more stable from the American big man since a time when for the past few years he has barely played.
Medvedev on the otherhand after slumping out of Wimbledon following reaching the Halle final has a point to prove. Lorenzo Musetti returns also after becoming one of the top names in men's tennis in the past year. He could face Wimbledon Quarter-Finalist, Cameron Norrie. Fresh off rolling back the years it has to be said at SW19.

Rune with Agassi? No Kyrgios as Aussie withdraws

Third seed Holger Rune was seen working with a certain former World No.1 Andre Agassi. He said hold my beer Alexander Zverev and Toni Nadal, who are mooted to be working together and could yet enlist the help of another legend after previously working with Boris Becker and momentarily also Federer coach Severin Luthi.
He is seeded to meet Alex Michelsen in the third round. While Ben Shelton the fourth seed could face DC's home hero Frances Tiafoe in the Quarter-Finals. A mouth watering tie for the home hopes in Washington.
Andrey Rublev is also involved. While he had a good week in Los Cabos, he was slumped out by Aleksandar Kovacevic so in reality he needs more wins and matches. He could face wildcard Emilio Nava.
Gabriel Diallo one of the stars of the grass court season could face Benjamin Bonzi or Fabian Marozsan. An entertaining tie between Gael Monfils and Alexei Popyrin is also on the slate. Alex de Minaur could face David Goffin or Yunchaokate Bu.
One player who won't be in action is Nick Kyrgios. He was due to make his long awaited singles return this week after playing in the Sunshine Double earlier in the season. But instead he will solely play doubles alongside Gael Monfils. A lot of top singles pairings have made their way into that draw. Albeit not mixed, it gives a taste for those involved as to what it will be liked ahead of the US Open mixed doubles bonanza.
Kyrgios of course is a part of that teaming with Naomi Osaka in the coming weeks.
