The
draw has been complete for the 2024
ATP Finals between November 10-17 with the big story being that
Jannik Sinner and
Carlos Alcaraz have managed to avoid each other despite being a potential they would have to face off in the groups.
Jannik Sinner is top seed and will be favourite to seal the title on home soil that he came so close to winning last year. Novak Djokovic who got revenge in the final won't return. He is unable to compete due to injury so won't add to his haul of titles albeit it was very much touch and go whether he would play as he didn't confirm it until this week.
But as a result, Alex de Minaur, Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev all were confirmed there and then and their tournaments elsewhere became fairly null and void. Joining Sinner in Group Ilie Nastase is Daniil Medvedev. They will astonishingly play for the 11th time over the last two seasons.
As well as those two, it is Taylor Fritz who makes his return after being an alternate last year and Alex de Minaur who makes a long awaited debut. He is the first since Lleyton Hewitt who made the final in 2004 to come from Australia.
The John Newcombe group is the tougher of the two though on paper with both
Alexander Zverev who is second seed and also Carlos Alcaraz residing there. The Spaniard will hope to have some semblance of an edge given that he has had the court played in Turin and also the Davis Cup Finals installed on his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero's court. But he has struggled with indoor conditions especially quicker speeds especially in Paris where he lost to Ugo Humbert.
A title that Zverev won so it could spell a nightmare for him. While Ruud and Rublev will both return despite showing very little form in recent months so are perhaps the two odd ones out when it comes to this group with Zverev and Alcaraz standing out. But with the German usurping Alcaraz into second spot this week, he gave the potential for him to meet Sinner. But the organisers will breathe a sigh of relief.
