The
US Open takes place between Sunday August 24 - Sunday September 7 and the men's
draw has now been completed on Thursday ahead of the final Grand Slam of the year featuring
Jannik Sinner,
Carlos Alcaraz,
Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz among others.
If all of the draw came true, it would see projected Quarter-Finals of Jannik Sinner v Jack Draper with the winner facing off against Alexander Zverev or Alex de Minaur. While the other side would see Novak Djokovic v Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton v Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner starts his campaign against Vit Kopriva in the opening round before then taking on either Alexei Popyrin or Emil Ruusuvuori. The winner would sit in the same section as Denis Shapovalov, the 27th seed who faces Marton Fucsovics in his opening round. Alex de Minaur is the seed at the bottom of the top half. He starts off in an all Aussie clash with Christopher O'Connell. The winner faces Hugo Gaston or a qualifier. Jack Draper faces a qualifier then Zizou Bergs or Chun-Hsin Tseng. Alexander Zverev as third seed faces Alejandro Tabilo. He then could face Roberto Bautista Agut or Jacob Fearnley.
Lorenzo Musetti is set to face big serving Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. The winner faces Quentin Halys or David Goffin with Flavio Cobolli or Jenson Brooksby likely lurking. Other ties include Stefanos Tsitsipas facing Alexandre Muller. But he sits in the clutches of a certain Alex de Minaur as now being 26th seed.
Djokovic on upset watch
Novak Djokovic could be on upset watch as he faces tricky American Learner Tien, a usual shock merchant who could yet bring the pain to Nole in what could be his last US Open if eh follows a similar pattern to his thoughts after Wimbledon. He faces a qualifier for sure if he gets through then Alex Michelsen, Sebastian Korda and Cameron Norrie are potential third round opponents. Frances Tiafoe and Holger Rune also sit in his wake.
Djokovic reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open earlier this year where he retired against Alexander Zverev and then the semi-finals at the French Open and Wimbledon. He lost last year though to Alexei Popyrin in the third round. This after he won the title in 2023 defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final. He lost in the fourth round previously after winning against Del Potro in 2018 so it's easier one extreme or another with Djokovic also not allowed to play it in 2022 in the COVID pandemic. But as he ages, the potential of him even playing the tournament again remains a distinct possibility so it will be interesting to see how he performs.
Novak Djokovic returns again.
Jakub Mensik faces a quality tie with Nicolas Jarry. Joao Fonseca could be his latter stage opponent or Tomas Machac who opens against Luca Nardi. Either way some good ties in that part of the draw. Taylor Fritz faces Emilio Nava with Sebastian Baez likely after. Ben Shelton's potential second round is against Pablo Carreno Busta. Casper Ruud opens against Sebastian ofner.
While Daniil Medvedev faces Benjamin Bonzi for the second straight Slam after the Frenchman bounced him out of Wimbledon. Mariano Navone or Marcos Giron is a tough assignment if he gets out of that. Carlos Alcaraz finally won't have it comfortable either that's for sure.
He faces big serving American, Reilly Opelka in his first game then it potentially is Juncheng Shang or Mattia Bellucci with wildcards in Stefan Dostanic or Eliot Spizzirri likely if he gets through so it gets easier but starts tough. Flushing Meadows awaits, who prevails?
