The draw for the women's side of the 2025
US Open has been confirmed. The tournament will take place from August 24 to September 7 in Flushing Meadows, the iconic venue for the tournament held in New York. The last Grand Slam of the year will have
Aryna Sabalenka as the defending champion and main favorite in her quest for the title.
Iga Swiatek,
Coco Gauff, and Jessica Pegula begin as some of the favorites, leading their respective quarters. Additionally, several exciting first-round matchups have been confirmed, including Victoria Mboko vs. Barbora Krejcikova and Venus Williams vs. Karolina Muchova.
First Quarter
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka leads the top half of the draw and will begin her title defense against young Spanish player Rebeka Masarova. While she's a clear favorite in the early rounds, she could face the 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez (31st) in the third round and then Danish star Clara Tauson (14th) in a potential fourth-round matchup.
The second-highest-ranked player in the first quarter is Jasmine Paolini, who is in great form after reaching the Cincinnati Open final. The Italian is the 7th seed and will have a very tough path if she wants another deep run, considering she could cross paths with former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova, and in a potential fourth round, names like Emma Raducanu and Elena Rybakina appear on her path (who could set up a thrilling third-round clash if they handle their business in the early rounds).
Second Quarter
Local hope Jessica Pegula (4th) will be one of the names to watch, especially after reaching the final in 2024—her only Grand Slam final so far. She will debut against Mayar Sherif and could face Dayana Yastremska (30th) or Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in a potential third round. In the fourth round, Liudmila Samsonova (17th) and Belinda Bencic (16th) appear as the names to consider.
The second quarter will have top-level action, with the other part led by Mirra Andreeva (5th), who will debut against the always-tricky Alycia Parks. Emma Navarro (10th) and Jelena Ostapenko (25th) are other names to consider. This section of the draw will also feature a top-notch first-round duel, with the draw setting up young Canadian star Victoria Mboko (22nd) against none other than two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejickova. Undoubtedly one of the must-watch matches for the first round.
Third Quarter
The third quarter is where the 2023 champion, Coco Gauff (3rd), appears—who lost her position as the second seed after a remarkable last month from Swiatek. The American No. 1 debuts against the tough Ajla Tomljanovic and could face Donna Vekic in the second round. The same section of the draw presents a potential duel against Magda Frech in the third round and the possibility of crossing paths with Naomi Osaka (23rd) or Daria Kasatkina (15th) in a fourth round.
The second favorite in this section of the draw is the 2025 Australian Open champion, Madison Keys (6th), who debuts against Renata Zarazua, while in the second round, she could face Petra Kvitova, who is making her final appearance in a Grand Slam draw after announcing her retirement.
Additionally, there will be space for some top-tier first-round duels: Marta Kostyuk (27th) will face Katie Boulter, while wildcard and seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams had a very tough draw against the Czech 11th seed Karolina Muchova—one who arrives with great ambitions and the need to defend a significant number of points after reaching the semifinals in 2024.
Fourth Quarter
Iga Swiatek's section seems a bit clearer than the top quarter, without too many high-profile names in the early rounds. The six-time Grand Slam champion will be seeking another major title and the possibility of returning to World No. 1 if she wins the title. She debuts against Emiliana Arango. There's a potential third-round duel against Anna Kalinskaya (29th) and a fourth round against Diana Shnaider (20th) or Ekaterina Alexandrova (13th).
The big challenge for the last quarter will be Amanda Anisimova (8th), who will debut against Australian Kimberly Birrell. It will be a more complicated path for Anisimova if she wants to meet Swiatek in a potential quarterfinal, as names like Sofia Kenin (26th), Elina Svitolina (12th), Danielle Collins, and Maria Sakkari appear on her path.
