The first three editions of the
Antalya Open took place on grass in June, just before the season's third Major at Wimbledon, with a small crowd and a weak field.
The fourth Antalya Open starts on January 7, changing its place in the calendar and moving to hard surface. The field is stronger than in the previous years, led by
Matteo Berrettini,
David Goffin and
Fabio Fognini, who chase the first title of the season and 250 points. Berrettini has to beat Laslo Djere and Alexander Bublik to advance into the semis, hoping for a better run than in 2020.
Fabio Fognini and
Jan-Lennard Struff should meet in the second quarter-final, facing lower-ranked opponents en route to their clash. The Italian underwent surgery on both ankles in 2020, feeling motivated to hit the top again and fight for notable titles, like in Monte Carlo 2019.
Also, Fabio wants to find form in Antalya and switch it to the ATP Cup in early February. The young Aussie
Alex de Minaur is the favorite to reach the semis from the third quarter, playing on a higher level than all the rivals and seeking a reliable start of the new season ahead of Melbourne's home run.
The 2nd seed David Goffin faces Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the opening round's best match.
