Dan Evans got his wish as he got nominated for the doubles match in Great Britain's clash against Colombia in the
Davis Cup after calling out the captain publicly for not doing that earlier.
Evans was disappointed by the team crashing out before the Finals last year and he launched criticism against the captain for not picking him to play doubles believing himself good enough to have gotten the job done. Britain lost both matches 2-1 after dropping the doubles match which was the crucial one.
Back then, Evans said:
“It’s f**king annoying. It’s disappointing. To be frank,
it’s a bit insulting also that I haven’t been picked ever to play the
Davis Cup [in doubles]. This is meant in the nicest possible way to the
doubles guys, there’s nothing against them – but I don’t need to play
doubles on the tour to prove how good I am at doubles. When I do, I
normally do okay."
He'll now finally play doubles as he was nominated in the matchup played on red clay. He will also play singles with Norrie, the two strongest British players on clay.
