Holger Rune went from having two renowned tennis coaches on his team to searching for answers again within months and renowned commentator and former tennis player, Mark Petchey believes that the time issue between the Dane and Boris Becker and Severin Luthi was a myth.
Rune joined forces with both Luthi who worked for most of Roger Federer's career with the great Swiss ace as well as Boris Becker before that who of course is one of the most revered tennis stars of all time and formerly coached Novak Djokovic. Of course featuring the reasons that Becker couldn't travel to Australia aside, Petchey believes that it is more on the fact it didn't work as opposed to Becker and Luthi not having time. He has since slumped in particular in Rotterdam and won't play Los Cabos next week either.
"As for Holger Rune, that's just bizarre, I mean, it's, you know, to get those guys on board, that's not enough time. I mean, Boris Becker couldn't even travel to Australia for known reasons," said Petchey on Tennis Channel's Inside In Podcast.
"For, me I don't I don't really understand. It certainly wasn't time, Let's be honest. That was absolutely. You know, that was a myth, you know, whatever that mirage was that they said they didn't have the time. Yeah. The fact was it? It hasn't worked and Holger Rune needs to figure it out," he added.
"There's not enough time for you as a coach, to really have an impact on a player's career. Some of the ideas that you have, at the start of a career, start the coaching liason will die on the vine, you will have ideas that you think work and you try, but they actually don't work and they could cause a bit more doubt," he continued.
