Norway’s tennis star
Casper Ruud has returned in the colours
of his country during the Paris Olympics. The mega-event officially started on
Friday, where thousands of athletes from around the world are participating to
showcase their talent and secure the ultimate glory for their country.
Ruud, who is part of Norway’s contingent, has been in the news for an interesting reason: the colour of his jersey, which resembles the flag of Denmark. The issue was also raised by the player himself in an interview, where he stated that he would like to see more blue in the jersey
but also admitted that he has no role in making those jerseys.
"I would have liked to see a little more blue in it
myself,” he said. "It is not me who designed it, and I just put up with
what I get. But yes, I missed blue. Now I have a bit of blue on my shoes, and a
Norwegian flag there. But it is very little.”
Much to the delight of his fans, Ruud returned to his country's colours during the second-round tie in the singles category. The world
number nine booked his place in the third round of the competition after
beating Italy’s Andrea Vavassori with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. In the first
round, Ruud defeated Japan’s Taro Daniel in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-1.
Ruud is coming into the competition on the where in two out
of three Grand Slams, he was knocked out of the competition before the fourth
round. His best performance in a major event came during the French Open, which
is played at the same venue where the Paris Olympics has been played. He was
eventually knocked out of the competition after losing to Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the semifinal with a score of 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.
