Roger Federer said he feels very good before the US Open, but he didn't make a good start against Nagal and lost already in the first set.
Of course,
Roger Federer is part of the Big Three and one of the best players in the world, and in the first round he didn't allow any surprises.
Swiss' balance at the
US Open in the first round is already 19-0. After the match Federer talked about the difficulty of the first matches on the Grand Slam and first set, which was not really successful.
"I think trying to forget the first set is never easy I guess in a first round, under the lights. People expect a different result. I expect something else,"
Federer said. "I just wanted to pick up my game really, start to play better. I was able to do that. That was a relief, going up 3-Love in the second set, realising that it is on my racquet."
"I wasn't serving consistently enough. I was hitting double faults that usually I don't do. Also I was just hitting too many unforced errors. I was in two minds, I guess," Federer said.
Federer also spoke about his opponent, who has a name very similar to the name of theclay king Rafael Nadal. Announcer asked him whether he had mistaken the name of a young Indian with a Spanish tennis player.
"[It's] never easy to come out and play your best. Even though it's kind of what you live for, you dream about, playing on the big stage. So I think he did that very well.
"I think his game is based on being really consistent,"
added Federer. "He moves well, moves the ball around well. Sort of very much a clay-courter. That's also the surface he's played basically the entire year almost.
"I think he knows what he can bring. That's why I think he's going to have a very solid career. But, of course, it's not the game that comes out with the biggest surprises. It's really consistent. I think he did it very well tonight."
