Although he will eventually have to lay down his tennis racket,
Roger Federer will be immortalized in cartoon form as he enters the world of comic books.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion has partnered with Globi to release "Globi and Roger", in it's 92nd edition of the popular cartoon strip-turned-picture book. Globi, who is a portrayed as a blue parrot, is an iconic comic book character that is comparable to Mickey Mouse in Switzerland. Globi is extremely popular in Switzerland and even Federer has a collection of comic books from when he was a child.
Globi’s latest adventure might be his biggest ever as he and Federer go to Wimbledon, play tennis together and visit a school in Africa. Globi is well-known for wearing his beret and wide plaid trousers on his many adventures, while the cartoonists stay true to Federer’s style by putting him in matching outfits complete with his signature bandana. Federer's four children and wife Mirka even make a cameo appearance.
The Swiss Maestro was actively involved in the entire process, as he not only permitted the use of his name and likeness but also offered up his life stories, took part in the conceptualization of the book and penned the foreword.
The comic is available in German, English and French as well as an audio book CD.
