Jannik Sinner has been one of the breakout players in 2021 and he sat down with ATP to discuss his pandemic.
Jannik Sinner has been enjoying a breakout season in 2021 after somewhat breaking out in 2020. This season he has been a consistent performer going deep at several events which includes the 2021 Miami Open final (l. to Hurkacz). The Italian sat down with ATP to do a feature explaining how he dealt with the pandemic.
He spoke about how he kept sane during the pandemic talking about staying fit in Monaco:
"We made a little space in my apartment in Monaco. It is not that big but somehow we managed to practice. It was tough I have to say it. I missed touching the ball and hearing the ball."
He also touched upon the importance of his family because his family, unfortunately, experienced COVID fully:
"Everyone had COVID in my family but everyone is safe now."
For Sinner, it was a daunting experience that made him realize how important mental health really:
"Mental health is important because many people don't speak about that so I would like to speak more about it. I started a program called 'What's kept you moving."
Sinner explained the reasoning behind it as a way to help younger people who have been struggling a lot with quarantine. Wrapping up Sinner expressed his gratitude for being able to compete again:
"Here we are. We are out and we finally can compete again and I am happy about that."
