Toni Nadal, the uncle of legendary tennis star Rafael Nadal,
believes that no one played better tennis than Switzerland’s
Roger Federer. The
43-year-old is often regarded as one of the best players in the history of men’s
tennis in the singles category, having won as many as 20 Grand Slam titles.
There has been a debate about who the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in men’s tennis amongst the ‘Big Three’ consist of Nadal, Federer
and Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic. Toni Nadal, who is the uncle
of the Spaniard, was recently quoted in a report where he stated that the Serb
is undoubtedly the GOAT player in men’s tennis but believes that Federer played
the ‘best tennis’.
“The best player of all time is Novak Djokovic. But the one
who played best was Roger Federer,” he said. “I think my nephew could have been
the best without injuries but in his career he has often injured himself and
therefore the best is Djokovic. But I also want to add one thing: what is seen
on the tennis court when played Roger Federer no one has ever done.”
Federer retired from the sport in September 2022 after
consistent struggles with fitness concerns. He was the first player in men’s
tennis history to win more than 15 Grand Slams. He was also the first to win 20
major titles in the men’s singles category in the Open era. Federer’s most successful competition was Wimbledon, where he lifted the title eight times, which is still a record. Overall, the Basel-born star won 103 titles in his career, which is the second-most by a men’s tennis player in history, only behind America’s Jimmy Connors. He played in 157 finals of a competition, the second-highest in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category. Federer finished
his career with 1,251 wins and with an unbelievable win percentage of 82%.
