Roger Federer had a very eventful R2 match against Marin Cilic and the Swiss ace was able to prevail 6-2 2-6 7-6(4) 6-2.
Federer started off extremely well in the match, winning the opening set 6-2. He served well, he played well and Marin Cilic simply had no answer to Federer and his game. Cilic and Federer played a lot of matches against one another and the Croatian rarely troubled Federer.
He did trouble him in the 2nd set as Federer went down early 0-3. It seemed like he would be able to make a comeback but an argument with the umpire completely threw his focus off balance and he lost the set 6-2.
After that Federer once again started playing much better and he was able to take an early break. He did not hold the break however as Cilic was able to fight back and make it 3-3. The set was decided in the tiebreak where Federer once again was able to overcome the Croatina.
The final set was a cruise control set for Federer as Cilic was completely flat after the tiebreak loss. The Swiss ace went on to win the match and after the match, he said he was surprised by his level which is rather high considering the circumstances. He faces Koepfer next.
