Iga Swiatek continued dominating at
Roland Garros by defeating
Rebecca Peterson 6-1 6-1 in an hour of tennis.
It was the usual Iga Swiatek Roland Garros performance as she dropped only one game en route to the straight-sets win over Peterson. There is not much to unpack here as Swiatek dominated from start to finish. She did not serve well hitting less than 50 % of her first serves but in rallies she was unbearable. Paterson tried a variety of things but nothing worked.
Swiatek took a 5-0 lead and served for the bagel but the Canadian was able to avoid it by breaking Iga in a game where her focus drifted away. In the end, she won it 6-1. The 2nd set was even more impressive as she finally started hitting her first serve and that left Peterson without any chance on return.
When Peterson served she was able to handle Swiatek to a degree but it largely depended on her hitting her first serve. If she didn't she lost 86 % of those points. Swiatek once again had a 5-0 lead but Peterson avoided a bagel once more. Swiatek then finished off Paterson with a quick service game.
Swiatek moves on in style to the 3rd round of the
French Open. She will face Kontaveit next.
