Former world number one
Roger Federer will be present at the
centre court of
Wimbledon on Tuesday to receive acknowledgement for his services
in the sport as well in the event.
The 41-year-old announced his retirement from tennis in
September last year after an illustrious career which last over two decades.
Federer became the first player in the history of tennis in
the Open era to win 20 or more Grand Slam titles in his career.
He is also the most successful player in the history of
Wimbledon after winning eight titles, the last of which came in 2017.
It is because of these achievements, the Swiss legendary
tennis star will be honoured on Tuesday in a special ceremony.
The Basel-born’s closest active rival is Serbia’s Novak
Djokovic who has seven titles to his name and has a chance to level the
achievement of the Swiss legendary player in London this year.
Interestingly, the 41-year-old’s last final in the competition
was also against the current world number two where he suffered a heartbreaking
defeat in a five-setter with a score of 7–6(7–5), 1–6, 7–6(7–4), 4–6, 13–12(7–3),
in a match that lasted nearly five hours.
