Felix Auger-Aliassime has long been associated with the uncle of Rafael Nadal,
Toni Nadal who has been his coach for a number of years. But he has decided to take a break at least from the Spaniard and has heralded a superb run at the
Madrid Open.
Auger-Aliassime will play in the semi-final against Daniil Medvedev or Jiri Lehecka on Friday and as per Carole Bouchard split with Nadal after Indian Wells. He decided to take a break from their partnership. He asked his father to join long-time coach, Frederic Fontang. Albeit he doesn't rule out the possibility of them working together again hinting that the split may just be for the short term.
The journalist replied to a tweet about their partnership and how they found the issue of facing Rafael Nadal which saw Toni not take to the stands 'rubbish'. To which Bouchard said they understand the Nadal issue and that it was 'too complicated' but that their union was 'stagnating'. Albeit mainly through injury, Auger-Aliassime after being a promising tennis star seemed to regress and was barely winning games. He has had a resurgence this week though heading into a pivotal juncture of his career. But is that merely coincidence or his coaching changes paying dividends.
