Although he was looking forward to playing the Rome Open as it is his home ATP 1000, Jannik Sinner has announced through an official statement that he will not play the tournament due to a medical warning. The Italian will have to rest the hip he injured before the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open.
Earlier today, it was reported that Sinner had his start altered to help him recover and he would decide on Sunday but he has taken that precaution even earlier.
"It is not easy to write this message, but after talking again with the doctors and specialists about my hip problems I have to announce that unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome," Sinner begins by announcing via his official X account. "Obviously I am very sad that I will not be able to recover, as it is one of my favorite tournaments. I was really looking forward to coming back and playing at home in front of the Italian public."
"Anyway, I will come to Rome for a few days and I will be at the Foro Italico. Thank you for your messages of support, which I appreciate very much. Now I will work with my team and doctors to be ready for Roland Garros. See you soon", concludes Jannik Sinner, who will start his recovery to be 100% ready for the French Open.
Thus, Novak Djokovic is the top favorite to win the Rome Masters. Without Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, the Serb has a great chance to reach his first final of 2024, and therefore compete for his first major title of the season before the arrival of Roland Garros.
