When rain stopped the Rome Open match between Frances Tiafoe and Daniel Altmaier, it was the German that was up but when they returned a day later it was the American who won 3-6 7-5 6-3.
Frances Tiafoe got quite a bit lucky with this one as he was really outplayed when the rain stopped the match. Altmaier was playing a very strong match hitting his shots and giving Tiafoe a lot of trouble. The German took the first set 6-3 but play stopped the match in the second set which was a bummer for Altmaier.
Even worse as he didn't have the same juice when they returned one day later despite some early positive signs. He was able to create break chances upon return but didn't use them and that proved costly. As the match went on, Tiafoe established more control of it and took the second set 7-5.
The first set opened on a high note for him as well as he took an early lead and held it for the rest of the match finishing things up 6-3 in the final set. An impressive stat line from both players but ultimately Tiafoe was able to get it done in three sets. He moves on to Italy's Lorenzo Musetti in the next round.
