Liam Broady has slammed what he perceives as preferential treatment afforded to World No.1, Jannik Sinner after the doping scandal involving the Italian which engulfed in the past week.
Broady said that this was used to protect his image after he was given a sit down interview with ESPN after being cleared of any wrongdoing. This is despite twice testing positive for a banned substance in March.
Two tests came back positive with one billionth of a gram of Clostebol found after his physio used a wound-healing spray on himself before massaging the tennis star without wearing gloves. But it took months to be unearthed with Sinner being protected by appealing his suspensions.
This verdict though has left a split opinion though among the tennis community with Broady left baffled that he was afforded a sit down interview and he also joked that he would be given four years if he tested positive.
“Not treated differently from other players but gets curated, presidential sit-down interviews with ESPN to maintain image. Where’s this energy for everybody else? Never seen anything like this.”
A fan then joked that if Broady ever failed a drugs test, he could appear on Channel 9. But the Brit who is well known in particular for his social media banter with Andy Murray responded in kind that there is double standards at play. “I wouldn’t be on any channels because I’d be banned for two to four years.”
