Semifinals will start on Saturday at the 2020 Hamburg European Open as only the best 4 remained in the draw in Germany.
The Hamburg European Open is coming to a close and as it usually is when tournaments come to an end we have only 4 players who will step onto the courts tomorrow. A week full of good tennis has come to this and the two semifinals will determine which players will battle it out for the title. The first semifinal features Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev two players who know each other well and who played against each other on these very courts last year. They shared the court twice on clay and Rublev won both times in three sets.
The 2nd semifinal will be a match between Tsitsipas and Garin. Two players who are polar opposites as their playstyles differ quite a bit as well as their court of preference. Garin is a player who loves to play on clay and he has a very good record on it. Stefanos on the other hand is no stranger to clay but it's not his preferred. They met once before in 2018 at the Le Gosier Challenger where Garin won on hard courts in straight sets. Will he be able to repeat the result on his favourite surface?

Only the best eight players remained in the draw for the 2020 Hamburg European Open and anyone can become a champion as all of the players are showing a great level of tennis. In the first quarterfinal match, the fourth-seeded Roberto Bautista will take on no. 5 in Hamburg, Andrey Rublev.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is the second-seeded in Hamburg and he will take on in-form playing Dusan Lajovic. The Greek outplayed Lajovic last year in Rome on clay and would like to show the same performance also today.
After this match, we'll see one of the two matches without a seeded player on Friday. Two players, that are showing an exceptional level will battle for the semifinal spot. Ugo Humbert defeated Daniil Medvedev and Jiri Vesely without losing a set. On the other hand, his quarterfinal opponent, Casper Ruud didn't lose a set against Benoit Paire and Fabio Fognini.
The second match where there will be no seeded player will see Christian Garin and Alexander Bublik playing for the last semifinal spot. Garin defeated Nishikori and Hanfmann in the previous rounds, while Bublik didn't lose a set against Ramos and Auger-Aliassime.
