British tennis star
Andy Murray suffered an early exit at the 2024
Australian Open, and compatriot
Tim Henman believes Murray will have a lot to think about following his disappointing loss.
The three-time Grand Slam champion fell to Argentine
Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who put on a masterful performance to dispatch of the Brit in a 6-4 6-4 6-2 victory. After being ousted from the tournament, Murray appeared distraught, as his post match comments hinted at him retiring from the sport. This was the first time Murray has lost in the first round of the Australian Open since 2019, having previously reached the final of the tournament five times.
Murray needs to re-evaluate his love for the game, says Henman
Following the match, Eurosport analyst Henman stated Murray looked lost on the court and advised the 36-year old to consult with his team and family on his next course of action.
"I think it was a painful watch, and he looked lost on and off the court," said Henman. "To hear him in the press conference so down and with very little explanation. It's difficult when you’re 36 and you’ve achieved what he has, you want to see him enjoying himself on court and reaping the rewards of all the hard work he puts in on the practice court and in the gym and on the track. He needs to go away, analyze it with his team and his family and decide where he wants to go next."
