Roger Federer will continue fighting and pushing in order to try and come back to playing tennis regularly at the age of 40.
Playing tennis at the highest level at age 40 seemed like fantasy a few generations ago but one man is trying to do just that. Tennis legend Roger Federer will miss significant playing time due to a 3rd right knee surgery which he will undergo. The decision was a hard one but his parents shed light as to why Federer is not giving up.
Asked by Swiss paper Bilch if they expected him to play at 40 his mother Lynette said:
“No, not really, but he certainly follows his instinct and love of the sport. In addition, his body has coped with this relatively well at a high level over the past 25 years.”
His father Robert Federer added:
“It’s just great how he still lives for tennis. And you can see what he’s taking on, all the effort of rebuilding after his injury – that’s admirable. Roger lives his dream. We accept that and don’t talk him into it.”
Bilch tried to sneak in a cheeky question about whether Federer confined in them regarding a possible retirement with his mother shortly saying:
“These are personal things that stay within the family.”
