Roger Federer suffered a shocking defeat in the
Wimbledon quarterfinals result-wise as Federer failed to win a set against Hurkacz.
The Polish player was simply too good for Federer who had chances in the match but once Hurkacz took the lead Federer became too nervous and erratic. The Swiss lost the match in straight sets which haven't happened in a long time and the final set was a bagel which did not happen in 20 years.
The result shook Federer deeply believes BBC Sport tennis commentator and tennis legend
Boris Becker. He said:
“I have a feeling he won’t be returning to Wimbledon next summer, especially after what happened in the quarter-finals. I think it was a huge shock to him."
Asked to elaborate on that Becker said:
"I think Roger arrived at Wimbledon thinking everything was going according to plan. He had recovered from his knee problems, he had used
the clay to get back in shape and recover confidence to reach the bottom
(latter stages) of the Championships."
Becker summarised his thught by saying Federer just might retire:
“I don’t think he showed up in London with the thought of retirement in his head, but now he might consider it. The way he lost to Hubert Hurkacz changed things.”
